POSITION – Education Tutor (up to 2) ending March 31, 2022

Hours of work: 16 hours per month and may expand or reduce depending upon success of delivery.

Renumeration: commensurate with combination of experience and qualifications
Tutors will generally work from their own residences and will use their own computer, cell, telephone, and internet services as may be required to complete their work under this position.
Closing date: open until filled
Under supervision of the Educational Services Program Manager and in collaboration with the Youth Coordinators, the tutor will create and deliver specialized and specific teaching materials for each participant. Tutors will create teaching materials through instructional assessment to meet each student at their personal academic competency level creating an achievable path to success. Tutors will compile and maintain student performance records and monitor student behavior. Focusing on building trust and rapport with students, the tutors’ instruction will be strengths-based. Students will have fund and enjoy learning. The tutor will work to increase student motivation and achievement, while developing and strengthening positive attitudes towards academic learning. Tutors will have a positive and flexible attitude, as well as clear boundaries, to establish themselves as mentors.
NWT teaching certificate or combination of education and experience.
Minimum 1 year experience teaching / tutoring / instructional role with children / youth.
Preference will be given to those with relevant teaching experience in the following areas; multisensory structured language education, literacy, numeracy, learning differences, differentiated instruction.
Knowledge of and experience in the effective use of technology as a learning tool.
Experience teaching in Northern and or Indigenous communities.
Understanding of Gwich’in language and culture would be an asset.
Criminal record check / vulnerable sector check (completed no longer than 6 months preceding start date)
Current Food Safe / First Aid as asset: (if the incumbent does not have a minimum of Food Safe, training will be provided.)
18 years of age or older.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
