Sherwood Cafe and Bar - Kitchen Manager / Head Chef

Sherwood is Victoria's first day-to-night cafe and bar complete with a comprehensive takeaway coffee service and two seasonal patios. We are enviably perched at our downtown's prime people-watching crossroads of Douglas Street and Pandora Avenue.

In keeping with the tradition of our sister company Habit Coffee, we're in the business of building a long time community institution - one that begins with executing a tight and thoughtful food and beverage program in a progressive and accessible social space.

Sherwood is first and foremost a gathering place for the city. That means employing staff who know how to make customers and staff alike feel genuinely welcome, this is our mandate. The Head Chef will work closely with the Director, General Manager and Sous Chef to oversee the day to day operations of the kitchen. This will include menu and recipe development, system optimization, and strategic planning to ensure growth. The chef will also be accountable for quality and consistency in every dish, management of all kitchen costs, and guiding and leading the team to consistently exceed expectations.


The ideal candidate will have:

Minimum of 5 years experience working in a culinary environment, with at least 2 years in a management role

Excellent communication skills - written and verbal, aptitude for conflict resolution

Proven skill in developing and executing menus inspired by seasonal/local availability, as well as guest experience
and satisfaction

A solution-focused work ethic - adept at problem solving, collaboration and solving inefficiency

Proven financial management

Expertise with all aspects of a full service kitchen, with eagerness to share knowledge and lead with integrity
